Google Ads FAQ #2: Why Leads Keep Coming After Ads Stop, Payments Profile Risks and How to Avoid Them
Why are leads still coming in when the ads are turned off?
This is a normal situation. Users can see an ad, go to the site and convert later — even after the campaign is stopped. The reasons:
- the source is stored in a cookie for 1 to 24 months;
- caching on Google’s partner sites;
- users return to your site via saved links.
Can you advertise several websites from one ad account?
You can, but I don’t recommend it. There’s a risk: if one site gets blocked, the others will suffer.
Recommended: 1 site = 1 Google Ads account, 1 analytics property, 1 GTM, 1 Merchant Center.
Can you use one payment profile for several accounts?
Yes, Google doesn’t prohibit it. But if one account gets suspended for “Circumventing systems”, all linked accounts will suffer.
Safer: each account gets its own payment profile.
What happens if you don’t pass advertiser verification?
Google will stop serving your ads and suspend the account. I recommend completing verification right after creating the account. If you’ve already failed the check — what to do after a failed verification. If the account is already suspended: Google Ads account unblocking.
Will increasing the budget increase the number of leads?
Bigger budget = more impressions and clicks. But that doesn’t guarantee more leads. Sometimes the result doesn’t change at all.
How do payment lapses affect the ads?
Very badly. Campaigns may go back into learning, and there’s no guarantee the previous results will return.
Why do junk leads happen?
There are two reasons:
- ad settings — a weak landing page, irrelevant keywords, location targeting errors;
- the human factor — people sometimes submit forms by accident or “out of curiosity”.
How many junk leads should there be? There’s no single standard. But if fewer than 50% are qualified, you need to look for the problem.
Can you target search ads at iPhone owners?
No. Search campaigns only offer general targeting by mobile devices.
Do you get charged for accidental clicks?
Yes, every click is paid. But Google has a system that filters out invalid clicks and may credit back some of them.
Why do click counts differ between Google Ads, Google Analytics and the CMS?
- Google Ads counts the click itself;
- GA counts only visits where the page loaded;
- the CMS often has its own counting logic.
What is Direct in Google Analytics?
It’s traffic from an unknown source. The main reasons:
- the user typed the site address manually;
- the link was shared without UTMs;
- UTMs were stripped by redirects;
- messengers without UTM tagging.
Why do all conversions end up in Direct?
Most often the cause is faulty redirects: the site sends the user to the same page, stripping the UTMs and the referrer.
Solution: ask your developer to check the redirects.
