A new Merchant Center, a new launch, a new positive result — and this time with no blocks at all. The whole process, from the start of cooperation to launching ads, took less than a week. We finished the website work on Friday and launched ads on Monday. And most importantly — zero suspensions.

Case Study: Launching a New Merchant Center with No Suspensions. Baby Food Store

Video: Case Study: Launching a New Merchant Center with No Suspensions. Baby Food Store

Niche: baby food and related products

The project is an online baby food store: purées, snacks, teething biscuits, juices, formulas and so on. The topic is simple and “white hat”, with no risky categories. Yet even in this niche Google behaves inconsistently.

During the launch there was one technical error on Google’s side that did not affect the ads, and a few products passed review selectively. For example, two identical products:

  • with the same description;
  • with the same photos;
  • with the same category.

Google approved one product and not the other. Even after repeated reviews. This is a typical case of “double standards”, when different reviewers interpret the same rules differently.

Why does this happen?

Google has rules, but no clear mechanics for applying them. Part of the review is automated, part is done by people. And there are no 100% unambiguous criteria.

That is why you get situations where:

  • everything works for one store;
  • another store with the same conditions gets blocked;
  • one reviewer rejects a product, another approves it;
  • a competitor’s site with identical policies works, while yours gets blocked.

It’s not about luck. It’s about Google having no clear checklist.

Why there was no suspension in this case

The critical point: we made all the necessary fixes BEFORE launching ads. This is exactly what freelancers and agencies most often ignore when they launch “as is”, and the problems surface later.

If a site was approved even temporarily without meeting the full set of requirements, the chances of getting blocked:

  • in a few days,
  • on any update,
  • or simply during a re-review.

The goal is not to launch “somehow”, but to launch in a way that minimizes the risk of suspensions in the future.

The client and their previous experience

Previous contractors launched ads without making the full list of fixes. The result: regular suspensions.

In this case we agreed on the following way of working:

  1. make all the necessary changes to the website;
  2. prepare the website according to Merchant Center requirements;
  3. check all product pages;
  4. only then submit for review and launch ads.

This approach is exactly what made it possible to pass review with zero blocks.

Conclusion

Launching Merchant Center with no suspensions is realistic — if you do the full scope of preparation work instead of hoping you’ll get away with it. The successful launch of this baby food store is one more proof.

Case FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does Google selectively reject identical products?
Because of the difference between automated and manual review. Google has no clear criteria, so different reviewers can interpret the same thing differently.
Can you guarantee there will be no suspension?
No. But you can significantly reduce the risk if you meet all the technical requirements, prepare the website, check the product pages and don’t violate the policies.
Why does everything work for my competitor while I get blocked?
Google’s review has no consistent logic. The competitor may have simply been lucky, or a block may be coming soon. Or they are breaking the rules but have not been checked yet.
Do you need to make fixes if Google has already approved the site?
Absolutely. A temporary approval does not mean compliance with the rules. The site can be blocked on a later review.
How do you avoid suspensions in the future?
Follow the technical recommendations, keep an eye on product pages, and don’t violate Google’s key policies on store transparency.
Should you launch ads without fully preparing the website?
No. That is a direct path to a Merchant Center suspension. The right approach is preparation first, ads second.
